Top 5 Drummers

Every name drummer in this post, including i would imagine, most of the drummers who use this forum would probably be capable of moving you musically/rhythmically for one reason or another ie... Tonys ride, a B.C snare burn, or maybe a Vinnie less is more lick, or how about Bonzo's levee breaks, or Trilok freaking out on tabla.

Obviously the chosen few, past and present i.e the names in this post, are far more accessible to latch onto for idea's and inspiration, as they are ultimately, incredibly talented craft pushers. But any drummer who has ever moved you in their playing i believe deserves to be in the top five, because as a collaboration its similar to a family tree of personal expression, without Tony... no Vinnie etc, who does seem to express himself very emotionally in the way he talks about his drumming and ideas.

My point being that most of you in this forum would probably inspire me so put yr self into the top 5!

Phil you have a very inspiring attitude. I am sure alot of guys appreciate your positive attitude and encouragement I do! You make very good points and you are right about Vinnie.

Hey maybe you can become the next Dom Famularo
traveling aroung playing killer drums and inspiring alot of guys at the same time. I heard Dom at Pasic before, he had everyone ready to join up right there on the spot, we need guys like that.

I have nuttin' but love for Dom!He really(and i mean REALLY) helped my hands(lol-did the Vinnie thing-"Here are my hands Dom,what do you think?") at a Vancouver Drum Fest a couple of years ago.He said i was the future of drumming(i know he says that to everyone,but hey ill take it!).I'll be taking a masterclass with him this fall to work my feet.He is one of the greats.Great drummer,great educator,great guy.His book will be classic soon.Love that man!...............peace.........beats

Beats, let me know how it goes. I emailed him about a good teacher for footwork. He recommended a guy here in LA named Sam Aliano. (former student of Dom's I think)

I'd be interested to hear how helpful he is in that regard.

Derek are you sure it was Aliano. Have you tried to take lessons say with Mangini or Virgil or Lang or Bozzio or Minneman. Man there are quite a few guys way ahead of Aliano in every department. Or is it more an issue of availability., where you need to get someone who is willing and available, just curious. I am not coming down on Aliano, I am sure he could teach you a few things but there are lots of guys with superior technique. I got his solo disc, was not impressed at all. I know you cannot no everything from one recording but that is all he has got out.

derek another great zach danzinger listen is on an album by chuck leob called balance. he played on all the cuts and soloes on two . He really takes the gadd ghost notes /accents to new heights playing unexpected 32 note accents phrases unlike any i have ever heard and hand foot triplet stuff that is unparalled. please check it out youll love it
